Dear Colleagues,
As most of you will be only too well aware, for two decades our universities have been facing declining resources, while governments of all persuasions have failed to recognise the importance of universities and the values they should engender to our society, and to our economy.
This year and next will see the Federal Government setting the future course of our universities. This is why the NTEU has launched its national campaign for a better higher education system - Our Universities Matter - Investing in People and Society. Some of you will have already signed the hardcopy version of the national petition associated with this campaign. If not, I would like to encourage you to take 1 minute of your time to read and sign the online version of the petition, which is available at http://www.nteu.org.au/campaigns/ouruniversitiesmatter/petition.
