Marine and Defence

OVERVIEW

WA's marine industry is the largest in Australia and our shipbuilding world-class. We're responsible for 55% of all Australian commercial shipbuilding - and this includes lightweight fast ferries, super-yachts, patrol boats and para-military vessels for the Australian and overseas navies.

Fortunately we have great design capability and technology, and our internationally-competitive ICT industry is developing the hardware and software so necessary for these projects.

The technology is required for systems and vessel design, simulation, analysis, testing, 3-D (and other) modelling, engineering, electronics, logistics, cutting, resistance and motion prediction, stability, as well as tracking devices, acoustic positioning and surveillance. Add to this undersea surveillance systems, through-water communications, underwater computers, sensors, sonar, audio, radar, weapons/guidance systems - WA companies are doing it all.
