shipbuilding world-class. We're responsible for 55% of all Australian
commercial shipbuilding - and this includes lightweight fast ferries,
super-yachts, patrol boats and para-military vessels for the Australian
and overseas navies.
Fortunately we have great design capability and technology, and our
internationally-competitive ICT industry is developing the hardware and
software so necessary for these projects.
The technology is required for systems and vessel design,
simulation, analysis, testing, 3-D (and other) modelling, engineering,
electronics, logistics, cutting, resistance and motion prediction,
stability, as well as tracking devices, acoustic positioning and
surveillance. Add to this undersea surveillance systems, through-water
communications, underwater computers, sensors, sonar, audio, radar,
weapons/guidance systems - WA companies are doing it all.
