Bio: Went to Hale then straight to Curtin - my current job takes me intestate and overseas, but I am based in Perth.

What do you do?
I am Managing Director of KitchenwareDirect.com.au.  We sell kitchenware and cookware to customers all over Australia.  We have experienced phenomenal growth in this rapidly growing sector.

What do you love about your work?
Wow - so many things.  I love the challenge of taking a traditional industry such as retailing and applying ICT concepts to deliver it over the web.  We are constantly tinkering with our offering and the wealth of analytical data that is available allows us to make changes and instantly see the results - be it good or bad.  This eventually leads to results for our bottom line (i.e. profit!).

What is the money like?
I have a great salary - though I know other people in ICT who earn 'lots' more!

How did you get to where you are today?
I initially worked as a Business Analyst for a large software company.  This was a great role as it involved a lot of international travel. I had a plan to launch an online store - which I did in my spare time and eventually it came to a point that it required full time attention.  We have since grown to have six full time employees in 18 months.

What made you decide to work in ICT?
I have always had in interest in computers from a very young age - not really in a 'techie' sort of way - I am no programmer by any means, but I enjoy being able to talk to people in plain language and being able to transfer their requirements into technical documents.

Is the ICT industry what you expected?
Yes - challenging, fun, demanding, rewarding and I loved the international travel!

Where do you see your job in ICT taking you?
I see myself running one of Australia's premier online retailers - Well at least that's the plan.

What advice would you give someone considering a career in ICT?
The ICT industry moves so fast - it is critical to spend time keeping up to date with the latest trends and improving your own knowledge.

Would you encourage others to get into the ICT industry?
Absolutely - ICT is a challenging, fast moving industry, which offers plenty of scope for career progression.
