What do you do?
I'm a strategic planner. I work to improve the operational performance of a company in Indonesia, which is responsible for building much of the infrastructure in the country.
What do you love about your work?
I get to learn many facets of business, from operational, financial, manufacturing, project management to business development.
What is the money like?
I get a very healthy salary and comprehensive benefits.
How did you get to where you are today?
I received a PhD in Computer Science from The University of Western Australia in December 2007. Before completing my PhD, I was approached by my current employer, PT Bukit Jaya Abadi, and offered a full time role as Advisor for Information Technology Division and Business Development Division. I have since been promoted to Deputy Director of Strategic Development.
What made you decide to work in ICT?
I am passionate about computer technology and how it can help us to do many things more efficiently and effectively.
Is the ICT industry what you expected?
Yes. People in the industry value sophisticated information technology solutions because it provides them with a competitive edge.
What do you find interesting about working in ICT?
As computer technology is constantly improving, there is no room for boredom. You keep learning new things and improving.
Where do you see your job in ICT taking you?
Strategic ICT can take me to a high level of leadership and eventually part ownership in the company that I work for.
What advice would you give someone considering a career in ICT?
There are many disciplines in computer science and information technology such as computer networks, animation, artificial intelligence, and databases. For anyone looking at a career in ICT, my advice is to choose disciplines wisely during your formal education.
Why would you encourage others to get into the ICT industry?
Because there is such diversity in ICT you will find something that suits you - and it will bring out the best out of you.
