Education

WA's economy may be booming due to our resources sector - but we're more than just resources! We're intelligent, we're innovative, we're creative - and with shrinking geographical borders we're well-established in the information economy and global marketplace. We have world-class expertise in a lot of areas and ICT is one of them.

To maintain our competitive edge as a smart country, it's important that we continue to develop our knowledge industries and ICT is critical to this. And this means training teachers in ICT. WA's four public universities run substantial ICT schools, while our TAFEs have many specialist ICT courses - including programming and the languages that are in demand, database skills, systems administration and network management.

Technology can transform education and increasingly classroom teaching includes ICT to improve student learning. ICT is also being widely used in online learning environments in most academic disciplines, including medicine. So it's important that we have ICT teachers to improve learning outcomes - and to prepare young people for the information economy of the 21st century. It's also important for addressing the professional development needs of the many teachers using ICT in learning and teaching in the classroom. Your country needs you - to teach ICT!
