Software Engineering

With the impact of computers and information technology on our everyday lives and their central role in many industries - for example commerce, education, government, defence, medicine, entertainment, and society generally - the role of the software engineer is significant.

Software engineering encompasses a very broad range of activities and, therefore, opportunities. It can include software design and development, systems development and management, computer and communication networking, business systems design and management, engineering R&D, and project and technology management. With its emphasis on organisation, management, innovation and problem solving, software engineering is a career that should have particular appeal for females.

Often working as part of a team, software engineers may design new hardware, software and systems, with a core group which can include professionals involved in engineering, marketing, manufacturing and design, all working together on a product.
